Yorkshire's Jamie Hood honoured by players

Jamie Hood: A picture taken by the Yorkshire Post shortly Jamie's tragic accident

Former Yorkshire Second XI and Academy all-rounder Jamie Hood, above, has been made an honorary life member of the Yorkshire Players’ Association.

The unanimous decision to give Jamie, 34, honorary life membership was taken at the association’s annual meeting at Headingley Carnegie.

Jamie was born in Saltburn, and between 1994 and 1997 he played several times for the Second XI. He appeared to have a bright future, but his career was tragically ended by a serious car accident in South Africa which left him paralysed from the neck downwards.

Despite this, he has never lost his enthusiasm for cricket, and he keeps in close touch with Yorkshire’s fortunes.

Association secretary Geoff Cope said: “Our members were delighted to award Jamie honorary life membership. He has now received his complimentary Yorkshire CCC membership card and an association tie.

“If Jamie wishes to come and watch Yorkshire at either Headingley Carnegie or Scarborough then appropriate arrangements will be made, if necessary, for his visit.”

Jamie still has fond memories of scoring a century for Yorkshire Seconds against Worcestershire Seconds at Bradford Park Avenue in 1995, and he is proud of the record-breaking 161 he once made for Redcar against Northallerton.
