Report: Yorkshire Academy vs Dunnington

Yorkshire Academy returned to action on Saturday with a home fixture against Dunnington after the top of the table clash with Castleford the previous week was cancelled to Covid issues.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat under cloudy skies. The first wicket fell at 25 before former Academy captain Tom Loten joined Andrew Bilton and they shared a second wicket stand of 48 before Bilton was out for 38. Loten was dismissed straight after reaching his 50, for 51 from 74 balls with six fours and a six. Luke Kilby and George Drury took the total to 200 with a 4th wicket partnership of 83 from 106 balls before Kilby fell for 40. George Drury remained 57 not out from 94 balls with 3 fours as Dunnington finished on 211 for 5 from the allocated 50 overs.
Captain Sam Wisniewski 2 for 58 from 12 overs was the main wicket taker for the Academy.

In the reply the home side were reduced to 30 for 3 and the 5th wicket of Harry Allinson for 26 left them struggling at 57 for 5. The bottom order provided some resistance with Noah Priestley 27, wicket keeper Alex Kaye 22 not out and George Booth 20 as Yorkshire Academy completed the 50 overs with 155 for 9.
Visiting captain Dave Brent did the damage with 4 for 33 for this allocated 13 overs.

It was disappointing performance from Yorkshire Academy who had a chance to narrow the gap at the top of the table as Castleford’s fixture as cancelled due to Covid. Dunnington have moved up to the third place in the table which will be decided on average points.

On Saturday Yorkshire Academy visit bottom of the table Driffield Town.
