A southerner loving life in the north

Beth Langston is a new ball quick who was a squad member when England famously won the 50-over World Cup on home soil in 2017. Unfortunately, she didn’t play in that triumph, not getting the chance to add to six senior caps gained between 2013 and 2016.

Langston played six years of county cricket for home side Essex before moving north to join Yorkshire. She played for the Yorkshire Diamonds in the Kia Super League in 2018 and 2019 before starting regional life with the Northern Diamonds in the 2020 summer.

She played in the first two Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy finals but missed the third in 2022 having suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury a month or so beforehand. Unfortunately, it ruined 2023 as well, her only playing once competitively.

Her return to fitness for 2024 is looking promising. And, as coach Dani Hazell says, “It will be like having a new signing”.

Excellent Langston, a contracted pro with the Diamonds, is a linchpin fast bowler. But she is also a very handy lower middle order batter.

At the start of 2022, she toured Australia with the England A squad.

A few months later she captained Yorkshire women to the regional final of the national 20-over county cup.

She is closing in on 200 senior career wickets, a milestone she will surely reach (143 in List A and 54 in T20 cricket). When she does, it will no doubt mean all the more when she reflects on battling back from injury.
